Sofie Gråbøl Meets Queen To Be Knighted… Again

Three years ago, Sofie Gråbøl (The Killing) was honoured with the Knight’s Cross, but on Monday she met with Queen Margrethe II at Amalienborg to be promoted to Knight 1st Class of the Order of Dannebrog.

Denmark has two Royal Orders of Chivalry, the Elephant and the Dannebrog. The Elephant is the oldest and dates back to the 1400s, whilst Dannebrog was established in 1671 when its recipients were given the award of White Knight.

In 1808 The Order of Dannebrog was expanded to include those of civil birth and was divided into: Knight of the Dannebrog, Knight 1st Class of the Order of Dannebrog, Commander of the Order of Dannebrog, Commander 1st Class of the Order of Dannebrog, and the Grand Cross of the Order of Dannebrog.

This week, Sofie Gråbøl was also nominated in the category of Best Actress for Der kommer en dag at the 2017 Robert Prisen, and was linked to a possible sequel to the 1994 horror sensation Nightwatch (Nattevagten).
