Stellan Skarsgård Adds Dragon To Honours

Stellan Skarsgård will be presented with the 2020 Nordic Honorary Dragon Award at the 43rd Göteborg Film Festival (24th January – 3rd February) where he is to deliver a Master Class and attend the Nordic premiere of The Painted Bird. He will further be honoured by a retrospective of his most acclaimed work.
Through a diverse career both at home and abroad, Stellan Skarsgård has established himself as one of the most versatile Scandinavian actors on the international stage, with work that encompasses the darkness of Lars von Trier at one end of the spectrum with the comedic relief of Mamma Mia at the other. This versatility was cemented on Sunday with a Golden Globe for his role in HBO mini series Chernobyl.
Festival Artistic Director, Jonas Holmberg, said: “With existential depth, warm humanism and unique sense for details, Stellan Skarsgård has become a symbol for Nordic cinema. During the past year he has shown his artistic brilliance in Chernobyl and The Painted Bird. It feels fantastic to pay tribute to him at the festival.”
Previous recipients of the Nordic Honorary Dragon Award are: Mads Mikkelsen (2019), Alicia Vikander (2018), Lone Scherfig (2017), Susanne Bier (2016), Liv Ullmann (2015), and Baltasar Kormákur (2014).
