SVT Confirms Two Seasons Of Family Restaurant Saga

SVT and ViaPlay are to co-produce two seasons of family saga Vår Tid är Nu (The Restaurant) which will be set in a family restaurant, spanning several decades from the end of World War II.

The series begins on Peace Day 1945 and centres on the Löwander family who run a prestigious restaurant in Stockholm. The twenty episodes will then follow what becomes of both the business and the family as a new era beckons.

Oldest son Gustaf (Mattias Nordkvist) has managed restaurants throughout WWII, sometimes via dubious means, and wants to run the restaurant as it has always been done. But Peter (Adam Lundgren) returns from the war seeing things differently, and believes that major changes are needed – a conflict that affects the whole family.

SVT Head of Drama, Christian Wikander, says: “There are two seasons with the first being in the fall of 2017, then we have not really decided when the second is coming, but probably in the following year.”

“For some time it has almost been a tradition to record 10-12 episodes and then decide on a possible new season. Now we are trying a different way and betting on two seasons from the start.”

The Restaurant is based on an idea by Johan Rosalind, and the cast includes Suzanne Reuter, Adam Lundgren, Mattias Nordkvist, Hedda Stiernstedt and Peter Dalle.

Filming begins in May 2016, and is expected to premiere on SVT in 2017.
