Filming is set to begin on Mikkel Serup’s boxing biopic, Den Bedste Man (The Best Man), about legendary Danish boxer Jørgen “Gamle” Hansen, who was European Welterweight Champion nine times in the 1970s. It will star Mikkel Følsgaard (The Legacy), Lene Maria Christensen (The Legacy), and Søren Malling (The Killing).
Den Bedste Man begins in the late 70s, when most people have written off Jørgen “Gamle” Hansen (Mikkel Følsgaard). He is afraid to go into the ring, his body is worn, and the bank is threatening to take his house away.
Only one thing holds it all together. His beloved Hanne (Lene Maria Christensen): manager, friend and wife. Together they fight an uneven battle to keep Jørgen’s career alive.
But when Hanne decides that the Hansen family will be playing host to African boxer Ayub Kalule (Arnold Oceng), who boxing promoter Mogens Palle (Søren Malling) is convinced will be the future of Danish boxing, Jørgen decides that he’s not ready to retire just yet.
Den Bedste Man, written by Mikkel Serup, Linn-Jeanethe Kyed and Søren Felbo, will be filmed in Croatia and Denmark from 11th July to 19th August, and has a budget of €2.5M (DKK18.8M). Its theatrical release is set for June 15th 2017.
