Ahead of its season three premiere next month, TV2 Charlie has announced that The New Nurses (Sygeplejeskolen) has been renewed for a fourth season.
Season three takes place in the spring of 1953, where the pressure is on to convince the local council chairman to choose Fredenslund as the county’s new central nursing school, facing fierce competition from the more traditional Skt. Helene where male nursing students are certainly not welcome.
Meanwhile, new surgeon and chief physician Dr. John Neumann arrives at Fredenslund with a confident attitude and liberal approach to the prevailing norms that soon cause friction with Doctor Neergaard. Moreover, they have a shared past aboard the hospital ship Jutlandia, and Neumann’s arrival reminds Nina of some painful memories.
Elsewhere, Anna has been corresponding with Erik in Canada and must choose between him and jazz musician Ole with whom she has been spending more and more time. And Bjørn is on the edge, having turned to dangerous methods help him to stay on top of things and deal with the regular night shifts.
Lead writers Claudia Boderke and Lars Mering, and producer Senia Dremstrup, said: “It has been both entertaining and challenging to develop the series across several seasons. Entertaining because we have had the opportunity to dive into several of the characters and got the chance to plan what fate offers them in the long run. The challenge is always to give viewers what they are looking forward to, while also being surprised.”
“Writing further on the series has allowed us to be inspired by how the actors and directors have shaped the characters and the universe. In this way, everyone influences each other in a creative ecosystem.”
“We think we have succeeded in creating a series that you are both moved by and can laugh at, and even though it takes place in the 1950s it feels relevant. Several of the themes in The New Nurses are still current and resonate today, and can hopefully help promote discussion.”
The New Nurses season three premieres 1st November on TV2 Charlie in Denmark.
