Woman At War Honoured With LUX Film Prize

The European Parliament has announced Benedikt Erlingsson’s comedy drama, Woman at War (Kona fer í stríð), as winner of the 2018 LUX Film Prize against competition from Styx by Wolfgang Fischer and The Other Side of Everything by Mila Turajlic.

The LUX Film Prize is voted for by members of the European Parliament to celebrate the diversity of European traditions. To that end, Woman At War will receive promotional support for its international release and be made fully accessible to those with visual and hearing impairments.

Benedikt Erlingsson said upon receiving the award: “I feel very honoured to be here in the temple of the power of the legislation. I feel like a politician, and I think politicians are also storytellers.”

“In fact, you are also very brave, because you are taking on the real challenges of fighting against climate change. Climate change will be the focus of all politics in the future.”

Woman at War is Iceland’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar at the 91st Academy Awards and recently won the Nordic Council Film Prize. It has now won fourteen international awards since its world premiere at Cannes Critics’ Week in May, where it also won four awards.
