Worst Person In The World Heads To Oscars For Norway

The Norwegian Oscar Committee has announced that The Worst Person In The World (Verdens verste menneske), directed by Joachim Trier, will be submitted as its entry for Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards.

The film follows Julie (Renate Reinsve) who is approaching 30 years old and in a long-term relationship with Aksel (Anders Danielsen Lie). But Julie is struggling to find a direction in life so leaves Aksel in the hope of something meaningful. However, a year later she learns that he has become seriously ill so visits him in hospital where a new honesty emerges.

Joachim Trier said: “Many thanks to the Norwegian Oscar Committee for the trust they have shown in us. We are ready to fight for a nomination. Who knows where this might lead? It’s great that Renate Reinsve is also being tipped for the Best Actress Oscar by many in the American media. We are really looking forward to it, the whole team.”

The 94th Academy Awards will be presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences during a gala ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday 27th March 2022. A shortlist of fifteen films will be announced by the Academy on 21st December 2021 and the final five nominees will be revealed on 8th February 2022.
